Julia Webster Ayuso is a Spanish-British journalist based in Paris. Her work has appeared in Monocle, Time magazine, The Guardian, The New York Times, The Daily Beast and Atmos among others.
Julia is particularly interested in stories about culture, language, identity, the climate crisis – and the relationship between the above. She’s reported from across Europe and written about the translators working in a secret bunker, the Louvre’s efforts to save its art from flooding, and the relationship between walking and thinking. She has been based in Paris for six years and has reported on French politics and culture for The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph and Monocle magazine.
As a linguaphile, Julia speaks five languages (English, Spanish, Catalan, French and Italian) and is constantly thinking about the best ways to convey nuances, layers of meaning and cultural differences in her reporting. In 2020 she launched the newsletter Beyond Words with fellow journalist Aisling O’Leary, in which they discuss the latest linguistic news from around the world.
Julia grew up in Barcelona and has a degree in French and Italian from the University of Bristol as well as a masters in journalism from City University of London. In addition to reporting for some of the world’s top publications, Julia also works with brands on a variety of writing and editorial projects, from newsletters and magazines to podcasts. Since 2024, she has been a guest lecturer in journalism at EFAP International School of Communication in Paris.
